The
Screenwriters Guild of America (SGA) is a proactive confederation
of industry professionals united for the mutual aid and promotion
of common interest. Our experience and expertise is derived from
the cooperative, collective wisdom of industry Screenwriters, Directors,
Producers, Literary Agents, Managers, Educators, Authors, and Studio
Executives who, in-turn, share their years and, in many cases, lifetimes
of priceless knowledge, experience, insight, and wisdom.
Screenwriters
Guild of America is the professional portal for working, and aspiring
Screenwriters globally. Our interactive community delivers invaluable
resources and strategies for competing, surviving, and thriving
in one of the most competitive industries in the world. Now that
the digital estate is firmly grounded with infrastructure and content,
it has thankfully brought the "wisdom of the ages" to
our front doors and beyondvia the internet. That is, if you
can weed through it all. Today, a simple search for "screenwriting"
with amazon.com will retrieve over 883 matches. That's a lot of
items to sift through. We know, we did it for you. You'll find that's
true throughout our website. In addition to producing our own content
(print/audio/video), our vocation is to tirelessly probe the Internet
for invaluable industry resources to affiliate and network with
on behalf of our Members, and Screenwiters throughout the world.
Our vision is to develop the archetypal portal for both aspiring
and professional Screenwriters worldwide. Our primary focus is threefold:
1).
To educate and incubate Screenwriters with their craft and the business
at large.
2).
To build a community for aspiring and professional Screenwriters
to network with their peers and "pay it forward" to the
next generation of Screenwriters.
3).
To administer a Guild sanctioned, industry standard, free
marketplace for professionally covered, green-lit scripts. See SGA's
Green-lit Market for more info.
The
SGA is proud of its proactive stance as a market-maker in the spec
script market worldwide. In the event Screenwriters Guild of America
enables the eventual sale (or option for sale) of a project published
traditionally (via SGA publications) or digitally (via SGA websites),
the SGA will not collect any fees from the gross proceeds
of any such sale. There are no commissions due SGA for sales.
Member or Nonmember - it matters not. Screenwriters, who have put
in the work, paid the price, and made the grade, deserve the opportunity
to be readone and all.
We are not
the Writers Guild of
America (WGA). They're a labor union representing over 8,000
professional writers. We are not their competitor, nor their adversary.
If anything, we are comrades. In fact, if you're not already a member
of the Writers Guild, one might say we're here to help you qualify
to become one. See "becoming a member" on their website
linked above.
The
Screenwriters Guild of America (SGA) is the professional association
for Screenwriters who are serious about success. Whether
you're looking to sell your script and quit your day job, or you're
an income tax paying member of the filmmaking community, the SGA
is a plethora of priceless knowledge and insight for the professional
Screenwriter. Straight-up, it's one of the best investments you'll
ever make on behalf of your screenwriting career. And equally important,
your membership helps provide the many free services available on
this site to aspiring Screenwriters worldwide. International applications
welcomed.
